Absolutely.
This word was equally soft, though his smile had grown into a small grin by this point. Sure, she'd stood up - but she was staying, at least a little bit longer, and she'd left her hand under his. He didn't bother grabbing it - didn't want to push too far and have her change her mind, really - though he managed to avoid disappointment as she did finally pull it away. She was, after all, just giving him a chance to get up. He couldn't fault her for that. He slipped up and out of his chair with that same grace he always had, moving around it to join her, not even grabbing the unfinished bottle of wine on the desk - right now, he wasn't even think about it.
Right this way, then.
He offered her another of those small smiles, hand landing lightly on her elbow again for a moment to guide her, though it lingered a moment longer than necessary. He didn't bother rushing through the halls, instead moving at a rather leisurely pace. They still had to head to the elevator - this place was big enough that, for the most part, the elevators were very well used, and used often - though they only went to the main floor this time, instead of the sub-levels. He guided her along to the kitchen, pausing at the table there to pull out a chair for her and motion for her to sit, waiting so as to push it back in once she did.
Think of anything, or shall I surprise you?
Once she was seated and push in, he moved back to the fridges - because, given the size of this place, the kitchen did sort of require multiple fridges, freezers and pantries to store all the food they went through. They were nothing short of a small grocery store. Which was, at least, good for one thing - anything she might want, they would definitely have at least a little of. He glanced over at her with a small grin and a chuckle near the end of his comment.
We've got just about anything - from the typical stuff like chicken to the weirder stuff like octopus, and anything in between.

This time, she didn't tense at the hand on her elbow and she followed him without a word out of the library and down the halls to the elevator. She was a bit confused as to what he was so excited about- just hours ago, they'd been practically at each other's throats and she'd been on the verge of leaving- but, for the sake of not possibly making things more awkward, she didn't ask. They reached the elevator and, after riding it to the main floor, the kitchen in a matter of minutes, and she slipped into the chair he'd pulled out for her even as she answered him.
...you don't have to go all out. Really. Just- just something small will do. Surprise me.
Her eyes wandered the kitchen as she spoke, taking in the sights- and she knew she should have expected such a large building to have an equally large kitchen, but she hadn't, and was therefore stunned by the sheer size of the room. His next words didn't help her much either, not that she had anything against weird foods- when you traveled as much as she had in her lifetime, you came to terms with some of the strange cuisine of the world, and she'd even managed to enjoy some of it. She was hardly going to ask him to cook her octupus though and hence remained firm in her words- he could surprise her, so long as he didn't overdo it.
In the meantime, her eyes landed back on him, and she was happy to notice that the smile still hadn't completely faded- she liked seeing him smile. At least, it was a pleasant change from the sulking and brooding he'd been doing when she'd first arrived hours before. Not to mention, having the sullen look gone from his face did wonders for his appearance, not that she'd ever thought him particularly unattractive anyways. There was no way she was going to mention that to him, though- smiling or not, he'd been quite the asshole to her over the past few days, and he had an ego big enough for two. He was hardly the kind of guy she wanted to get involved with, professionally or otherwise, and as such she was going to avoid stroking his ego even more- or making a move on him, for that matter.

He nodded as she replied to indicate he'd heard her and would respect her wishes - at least for this - and dug around for chicken. Chicken was always a safe bet - simple, common, most people liked it. Not that he kept it as simple as she wanted, he was pretty sure - given he took the effort to stuff said chicken cutlets with bits of bacon, cheese and various herbs before breading them and pan frying them, alongside some garlic mashed potatos. Admittedly, he didn't usually eat - didn't need to - but he figured she'd be a bit more comfortable if he did, so he made enough for two.
He moved back over to the table after the dishes were plated, settling it down in front of her with a small smile. While everything had been cooking, he'd done a quick sprint to the wine cellar and poured them each a glass of the finest red they had available. This wasn't his need to drink away his sorrows, though - no, this was just his love of good wine, as made obvious by the proper, delicate sips done only on occasion. He shot her a little grin though as he handed her some cutlery and settled inn across from her.
Bon appetit.
Even so, he waited patiently for her to try some first, to make sure he'd not done terribly. It was all stuff that made sense together - but he'd never actually made it nor had he ever really cooked in over a century. He was just hoping it was at least edible.

She didn't move from her chair as he got to work cooking, though she did at least take to watching him as he worked, getting what glimpses she could from behind him as he pulled out chicken, potatoes, and the like- and she could already tell he still wasn't keeping this as simple as she would've liked, though it was a bit late to stop him. She had to admit, once he'd gotten it cooking, it smelled amazing, and she was beginning to realize just how hungry she actually was.
I told you not to go all out.
Her words were halfhearted though, and spoken just as he set the plate and glass of wine in front of her, therefore making it a bit late to protest anyways. She took a sip of the wine first, then sat the glass back on the table and picked up her fork to start at the chicken. She'd noticed how he waited for her to eat first, after all, and had a feeling her opinion meant more to him than she'd expected. If the food tasted anything like it smelled, she didn't think there was anything to worry about- and after the first bite or two, she was easily able to say that it was, and she only paused long enough to give him a well-deserved compliment before continuing to eat.
This is... really good. Wow.
She didn't speak again afterwards, opting to finish her food first and leaving her to sip at her wine contentedly once she'd finished. She had to admit, maybe he wasn't as bad as she'd thought, as far as company went- she'd be lying if she said she hadn't been enjoying most of her time with him on some level. A glance at her watch told her that it was getting late, though, and Serge would definitely need feeding. She really shouldn't stay much longer, and she knew it- though she did let a few more words slip out, a small smile playing at her lips.
Thanks. For dinner, and... everything, I guess.

He'd smiled gratefully when she mentioned it was good, with a softly relieved sigh slipping out before he took his first bite and was forced to concur. He ate in silence, which was a strange occurrence with him, though it was rather awkward for him at least. She seemed to enjoy it, though, so that was enough. He settled back in his chair as she finished, sipping at his wine and noting her smile, which only made him smile a little bigger in return.
Any time, Em.
He murmured softly, finally moving to get up and take the two plates to the dishwasher and setting them in. He could clean up the rest later, though. He topped his own wine glass up before offering to do hers, placing the bottle down after, elbow extended towards her a little with a small, genuine smile. He knew she'd probably want to get home - but he would offer her to stay a little longer, and regardless he'd at least walk her to the door.
I could give you that tour now - if you're up for it, anyway. Might be nice - stretch your legs, walk off dinner a bit. I promise to try and behave myself.
He offered her a small grin and a soft chuckle towards the end, though he hoped she'd take him up on it. He really didn't want her to go, not yet. Perhaps not ever, really - he rather enjoyed her company. Sure, they bickered and argued, but that was to be expected - and when they were, it really was quite pleasant. Sh was intelligent, determined, not afraid to stand up to him at all - some part of her even cared enough to try and convince him to not ruin his life. It was too bad she mostly hated him otherwise.

She froze for a moment at the nickname- Em. Few people had ever called her that. Her team back at the BAU, mostly, and Clyde on occasion, though he'd taken to teasingly calling her 'darling' instead of using her name or some variation of it. Nikola was one of the last people she expected would've called her Em, though- but it wasn't an entirely unpleasant idea, either. There was just something about the way he said it that she couldn't quite brush off, though she quickly shook the thought off and accepted the second glass of wine, taking a few more tentative sips and standing up to join him, though she hesitated at the idea of taking his arm, and the suggestion for a tour that followed.
I, uh... I should really be getting home. It's late, and I've got work tomorrow, and Serge to feed...
She trailed off, eyes darting from him to his elbow and back for a few moments, though she wasn't quite sure what else to say. She was curious about the place, yes, and that made a tour tempting- not to mention, a little bit more time with him, something she'd quickly started to become accustomed to- but at the same time, she did really think she should be getting back home, not to mention she couldn't help but worry that something would happen that'd end in them arguing as they had just hours before. And arguing with him was far from an appealing thought, especially not now, when she'd actually begun to take a liking to him- an unwarranted liking at that, but a liking nonetheless.
I'll put a file together with some of the information we found, and try to narrow down a location, or- or something to help us find him. In the meantime, just... just keep an eye out. You're the one who knows what we're looking for. Just... call me if anything pops up.
She pushed her chair in and reached for the glass to finish it off before setting it back down and giving him a small nod, the corners of her mouth hinting at another smile though this one didn't break through right away. She just hoped he didn't resort to that pleading look again, the one he'd given her when he'd tried to convince her to let him cook her dinner- if he did, there was no way she was leaving. Not a chance in hell, and they both knew it. She didn't know what it was about that look, but it made it impossible for her to do anything but what he was asking her to. Her best bet would be to get out of here before he could resort to that, and in the meantime she intended to do just that, offering him a few more words as the smile finally showed through, however small it may be.
...I'll see you tomorrow, Nikola.

No- yeah- right. Of course.
He murmured softly, elbow falling back closer to his side a bit, though still out a touch. He'd hoped - perhaps foolishly - that she'd stay, at least a little long. It wouldn't take long - he was hardly going to show her the whole place, having more so been intending a tour of the sub-levels and nothing more. The interesting stuff. But, if she didn't want to stay, he wouldn't force her to. He nodded a little at the rest of her words, though extended his elbow out again, determined to be the gentleman, to give her absolutely no reason to avoid coming back.
I'll walk you out-
He may have said more, but he cut off as her last words sank in. She didn't say 'see you around', or that she'd call or anything - no, she said she'd see him tomorrow. He blinked a few times in surprise, eying her carefully, trying to figure out if it had just been automatic or if it was really heartfelt - but the smile convinced him of the latter. His shocked look spread into a happy little grin and, considerably more confidently, offered his arm out.
Tomorrow? Why? We have plans I don't know about?
There was a faint touch of arrogance there, but that was more automatic than anything, and it was mostly just a barely contained joy. She actually wanted to see him again - that trumped everything, including the wine glass in his hand and he settled it on the table, merely straightening his already-straight shoulders just a touch more.
Not that I'm complaining, of course.
If anything, he was more so excited than anything - couldn't wait to see her again. Not that it had anything to do with the case by this point. No; if anything, it never had. It had been months of soul-crushing depression and loneliness, and finally something - or, in this case, someone - had come along and lifted it. He was desperate to cling to it, to not fall back into that miserable state, if only because that was what she wanted. She wanted him to move on, to keep living - and, for some reason, he cared what she wanted. That alone was an entirely new concept to him. His life had always been about what others expected and what he, personally, wanted; but never vice versa.

She watched the progression on his face from nonchalance to sheer surprise and, moments later, arrogance as her words fully sunk in for him. She hadn't thought twice about mentioning that she'd see him tomorrow- she had intended to stop by with whatever profile she managed to form that night, or at least call him and have him stop by her office to show him whatever it was she'd determined. However, she was beginning to rethink it, given the cockiness in his words just moments later.
Watch it, Tesla, or I'll cancel them.
Her words were mostly teasing, of course, though she still didn't want anything going to his head and decided it would be best not to linger too much longer. She did end up hesitantly taking his arm, if only because she didn't know the way to the door and would need him to guide her, and she hardly doubted he'd do that unless she obliged. She did, however, motion with her head towards the kitchen door as a sign that they should get going, though she did let an explanation slip out in the meantime.
I'm going to try to come up with a geographical profile; try to pinpoint a few possible locations we might find him at- but you know him better than I do. I'll need you to at least look them over. Besides, we're in on this together now- we won't exactly be able to go very long without seeing each other anymore, at least not until this is all over.
It was true- they were partners as far as this case went now. Yes, her Interpol incident response team technically still had jurisdiction, but there was no way in hell she was bringing them into all of this- it was enough that her world had been turned upside down; she wasn't about to do the same to them, especially not when it was unlikely to go over well anyways. As far as she was aware, they were the only two people who knew the truth behind this case right now, and it was likely to stay that way. Hence, they wouldn't be able to get away with avoiding each other until Jack was caught and was either killed or put back into the Sanctuary.

He shrunk back a little at her teasing, grin fading to a fleeting, nervous smile and nodding a little. He was trying to behave - trying, and failing, really. But he was trying. As she took his arm, though, it grew back, with that same brilliant, happy - yet slightly shocked - quality, and his spare had rose to lightly cover hers a moment, though he let it fall away a moment later, not pushing it.
He did guide her towards the main door, though, listening to her explanation. He would have preferred it without the explanation - he could have pretended it had something to do with him more so than their work. He kept the pace leisurely, though, occasionally letting his shoulder brush hers simply because their closeness was a perfect excuse to do so. He did, of course, have something more to say - or, rather, ask.
Of course. But... What about once it is over?
He had slowed to a stop towards the end, turning a bit to face her, though without taking his arm away at all. In fact, without thinking, his spare hand had risen to cover hers again, a precaution against her pulling away, even if the touch was feather-light. He kept the desperation out of his eyes, yes - but that faintly hopeful tone was back, mixed with curiosity. This had long since stopped being just about catching Jack, after all. He kept a close eye on her, watching for any sort of indication as to how she was taking this question of his. Hesitation, outright surprise, disgust - any and all signs, he wanted to see them, even if he might not be able to properly sort them out on his own.
I- I mean... if.. if we ever have time or something... You could always stop by. I- I wouldn't mind. I could even cook again. If you wanted, that is...
He hadn't been able to hold his tongue - when he got nervous, he talked, after all. He realized then that his hand was resting over hers - but he didn't take it away. He spared it a brief glance, but nothing more, and he instead just went back to watching her face, her reactions.

Her steps faltered at his question, obviously not having expected it and even more surprised that he actually seemed interested in seeing her again once this all came to a close. That alone was enough to cause her to hesitate- that hint that he was interested in her more than he was letting on, or that she just happened to be overlooking the signs and that he had been flirting with her all this time and she hadn't realized it. She quickly pushed that thought from her mind, though- for all she knew, this was just him wanting to see her again for solely friendly purposes, and jumping to conclusions on that front would do her no good,
I... I don't know. We'll have to see, I guess.
She had come to a stop as well by now and was standing at an angle so as to face him. She'd just been about to let her hand fall from his arm as well when his own moved to cover it, and she just couldn't bring herself to do so afterwards, especially with that hopeful look back in his eyes even if he wasn't pleading this time around. It wasn't that she didn't want to see him again- she just typically made it a priority not to get involved with the men she worked with, as her un-acted-on feelings regarding Mick had proved. Besides- as far as she could tell, Nikola was no different, even if he was being much more subtle in his flirting. If she did see him again, it would be strictly professional- though the offer that he could cook for her again was tempting.
I'll keep that in mind, I guess. Right now, though- I, uh- I should really go.
They were close enough to the main doors by now that she wouldn't need his help to guide her out, and she slowly let her and fall from his arm, though she couldn't help but feel guilty for doing it. She did offer him a small smile and a nod in thanks, though, and she didn't leave immediately, though she did take a few leisurely steps in the general direction of the main entrance. She meant it- she really should get going, though she wasn't about to outright take off and leave him there, not without a proper goodbye.
...thanks. For everything.

Alright.
He murmured the response quietly, though he saw right through it - she didn't want to. The hesitation, the stumbling, the constant "we'll see" with no solid answer - it was all very clear. The hope faded, and he didn't cause any resistance as she pulled her hand away. He'd been mistaken, simple as that. It didn't happen often - but it did happen occasionally. He moved to slip his hands in his pockets, not following after her, even though he wanted to.
Anytime. I, uh... I'll see you tomorrow, then.
His words were soft, though they echoed in the large foyer, and he flicked a finger to open the door for her, followed by a second flick to open up her car door for her. A small smile still rested on his face, though, even if it was a touch sad. He waited until she was gone to close up, then headed back to the kitchen to clean up, finish off the wine. He settled in to take care of the paperwork that had cropped up through the day.
The morning brought video conferences that he participated in solely because Declan refused to participate when Nikola was walking around bored and impatient anyway. He was stuck in them for hours, looking down at the clock only come three in the afternoon. He knew she worked long hours, but he'd expected a call by now. He impatiently paced his office for another hour, though, before he really started worrying. He found his phone then, settling in his office chair and dialing her number.
Except it went to voice mail, which didn't make sense because it was her cellphone number and he doubted she went anywhere without it. Just in case, he found and called her office number - but there was no answer there either. He was fairly certain he was overreacting, but with no proof otherwise and no answer on the messages he'd left yet, he began searching through CCTV and recent records - her phone records, her credit card purchases, everything. It was only when he got to hospital records that he found something, though, and he froze.
The description matched Jack's attacks, save the fact she'd lived. He swore his heart stopped and he stared, trying to make sure it was really her, though there wasn't actually anything to suggest otherwise. They even had her identification. Once it sunk in, he was out the door in seconds, heading straight for the hospital. There was no way she was staying there - not when he should have known better, and expected Jack wouldn't be content to leave her alive either.

She'd given him a small smile as he opened the door for her though she hadn't lingered any longer after that, getting into her car and heading back to her apartment with only one more murmured goodbye to him. She'd noticed the way his hope had seemed to fade with her earlier words, but that was something she just wasn't sure how to react to, not when she didn't know why this meant so much to him in the first place. She was glad to finally get home and properly nurse her hangover with another tylenol and a cup of coffee, though the headache had almost completely faded by now anyways. With that done, she showered and went off to her bedroom to get some sleep- she intended to get up early the next morning, for the sake of running one last 'errand'.
First thing in the morning, she got dressed and slipped her gun and its holster onto her hip as usual, though it was an hour or two early for her to go in to work, and she didn't typically wear her gun on her when she went into the office. She had a stop she wanted to make first- she wanted to take one last look at the warehouse while she still had the chance, without Nikola there to distract her. She parked just outside of it and creaked the door open, stepping in and letting her gaze sweep around the place. It looked just as it had the last time she'd been there, except now it was lit up by daylight. There was one more difference, though, she realized- there was a light scraping sound coming from the rafters, though she brushed it off as simply bats or rats or something of the sort.
She'd just moved over to the spot where Nikola had fallen, taking the rafter with him, when the sound suddenly stopped and she couldn't help but feel uneasy. There was a moment of pure, unadulterated silence that sent a shiver down her spine, and then something hit her hard from behind and she was thrown to the ground. She barely had a chance to roll over before her attacker was out of sight again, and she had her gun out of its holster and the safety off within seconds. There was another moment of tense silence before the attacker- and it didn't take her long to realize that it was Jack- came into view again, and she fired a shot in his direction- or tried to, at least. She cursed loudly when the trigger wouldn't pull all the way, and it didn't take a genius to realize that the damn gun was jammed.
However, that quickly became much more of an issue as Jack launched his attack, though he moved too quickly for her to get a good look at him, and she was still partially dazed from the fall. He darted in close and she was able to swing her gun to crack him over the head, but not before he got in a few good swipes with claws that could only be described as animalistic, despite his for-the-most-part human appearance. Within seconds, he'd dove in again and she was able to get another good hit in with her gun, one that sent him flying off of her and, judging by the blood on the ground, had managed to hit him harder than she'd anticipated. The sound of claws returned as he scrambled away, faster than she could keep track of especially in her dazed state. She'd made it. She was alive- but as she tried to stand up, she soon realized just how narrow her escape had been.
As it turned out, most of the blood she'd seen on the ground was her own, if not all. He'd hooked her a few good times in the abdomen with those claws, tearing through clothing and skin alike, and she had to tear her gaze away from the wounds to keep herself from getting sick. She was able to tell she was in shock by the fact that it didn't hurt- at least, not unless she tried to move- though she was able to bring one hand to press over the wound and try to stop the bleeding, however weakly. She let out a hoarse cough and wasn't surprised when blood came up- he'd at least grazed one of her lungs, it seemed. Her next actions took almost all of her remaining energy as she tried to pull her phone from her pocket and get to the call screen. She only managed to dial three digits before she passed out- thank god the number was only three digits in the first place.
The next thing she knew, she was waking up in a hospital, and everything hurt, from her head to her stomach. It took her a moment to remember what had happened, but it all came back to her quickly enough in the form of a single name- Jack. She attempted to sit up on the hospital bed only to feel a stinging pain through her stomach, forcing her to relax back against the bed again. She didn't need to peek under the hospital gown to tell she was stitched and bandaged beyond recognition, either- she was just lucky he hadn't targeted her face. Her phone and gun were resting on the table beside the hospital bed, she realized quickly enough, and she had to resist the urge to reach over and speed dial Clyde- he was the closest thing to family or friends she had in London, after all. She hardly wanted to worry him, though, especially while he was likely still at work- a glance at the clock told her that it was late afternoon. That in itself was worrisome, given just how early she'd headed out to the warehouse- she'd been in surgery, no doubt. That explained the ache in her throat that came with the use of a breathing tube, at least.

Luckily, Declan had a contact at the hospital - otherwise, he never would have gotten to the ICU, let alone near her room. He didn't head in straight away, though, stopping a doctor for information. When he heard how bad it was, though, he instantly put in for a facility transfer - there was no way in hell he was leaving her here. The Sanctuary had better equipment, better facilities, and was easier to protect. Jack could reach her window, after all, but in the Sanctuary it was below ground - Jack would have to come in through another floor, and he'd never go after her there anyway.
While that was being sorted - it would have to be an ambulatory transfer, what with her extensive injuries - he headed to her room, pausing by the door to peer in. She looked like hell - though he said nothing about it. He paused before opening the door, sending a text to Declan to handle the Sanctuary Network until further notice. Then, he pushed the door open a little, lightly knocking on the door to let her know to look. He hesitated a half-step before he walked in further, grabbing a chair and pulling it over to her bedside. He settled there, elbows on the edge of the bed and chin in his hands, nothing short of concern in his eyes.
Hey. How're you feeling?
His words were soft - he had little doubt her head would hurt, so a softer voice would probably be appreciated. He couldn't help it, though - just seeing her like this made his heart ache. He should have known Jack would go after her, after all. One hand fell from supporting his chin to curve gently around her hand - the one that didn't have an IV and wires attached to it - and gave it a small squeeze. Whether they knew each other well or not, whether she liked him much or not - he was there. She wasn't alone. He gave her enough time to answer before asking one further question, eyes and voice still very clearly worried - worried and guilty, though he hoped that the latter was hidden too much for her to pick up on in her drugged, injured state.
Is there anyone you want me to call? Friends, family?

She heard the knock and immediately turned her gaze towards the door, though the moment she realized just who it was she was attempting to sit up again, though the sting in her rib area was enough to force her back to the bed once again. Nikola was one of the last people she'd expected to come see her here- how he'd found out about the attack, she wasn't sure, though he was obviously worried sick over it, if the look he was giving her was any indication. She sunk back against the bed, not saying anything right away- or at least, not until he settled beside the bed and asked her how she was feeling.
...like hell. But thanks for asking.
Her words were more amused than generally annoyed, though her voice was weak at best, especially given just how much her throat hurt. Yep, she'd definitely had surgery, not that that was high up on her list of priorities at the moment. It did, however, occur to her that this was likely to scar, and that was an unappealing thought at best. She'd seen enough people cringe at the scars she already had- now, with her abdomen completely mutilated, she didn't think she'd be able to so much as take off her shirt without wincing at the sight herself. Nikola's hand around hers helped somehow, though- not with the worry about the scars, maybe, but with everyone else. He cared, and that was all she needed to know, though she did think she should contact Clyde, and in her current state she had a feeling just taking Nikola up on his offer would be best.
...my phone. Speed dial one.
Ever since she'd moved to London, Clyde had held that position, beating out her team and even JJ- he was the only one in the same country as her now, after all. She fell back into silence in order to let Nikola make the call, though motioning towards the side table to at least point him towards where her phone was. Her gaze ended up landing on her gun again though, and she noticed that there was a little bit of dried blood on it after all- maybe she'd hit Jack pretty damn hard after all. She was still confused as to how it'd managed to jam, though- she tended to keep it in pristine condition, and it hardly ever so much as faltered on her. How it had jammed of all things, she wasn't sure. Once she was off the painkillers, she'd take a look- right now, though, she was having enough trouble staying awake, let alone taking apart and repairing a gun.

Her confirmation of what he'd suspected should have brought about a smile and a rude joke, but it merely left him clinging to her hand a little tighter, eyebrows furrowing in further worry. He leaned in a little closer, the hand not around hers gently brushing her hair back and out of the way, eyes scanning for injuries, though there was only a few bumps and bruises there. He reached for a glass of water with a straw to help her throat out as she responded to his second question, letting her take a sip first.
He did, however, nod, and once she was done with the water, he placed the cup aside and grabbed her phone. He noticed her eyes on her gun, though, and took a moment to skim it with his own. A bit of Jack's blood was there - but why had she hit him with it in the first place? She could have just shot him... right? Placing her phone back down, he picked up her gun, eyes traveling along it, and he found it - her trigger was a little off, crooked. Barely, but just enough. He realigned it with a thought, but the guilt in his eyes merely flared up even more. He said nothing, though, merely dialing as she'd requested.
He informed the man - British, clearly, by the accent - as briefly as he could, not really feeling like going into details, but assuring the man that he'd call if anything went wrong. He had a feeling that wouldn't stop him from coming to visit - or trying to - but by that point she'd be in the Sanctuary, and as such Clyde Easter would have to wait until she was okay to move to the higher levels and for a planned visit, whether he flashed his fancy Interpol badge or not. He didn't get a chance to say anything more to her by the time the stretcher and the ambulance driver showed up for the transfer.
...You're coming with me, by the way. It's a little more dreary, perhaps, but the Sanctuary infirmary is far better equipped than this place. Food's better, too. There's also a few things I want to try, may help you heal a bit faster, keep the pain at bay a bit better; but I can't bring them here. Alright?
He wasn't sure this would go over well or not - but he didn't care. He had every intention of bringing her to the Sanctuary whether she wanted to go or not. He'd keep her safe - keep an eye on her, help her heal. He had to - it was the only way to ease the guilt at least a little, especially now that he knew it was his fault. He should have known Jack would go after her, and he most definitely should have made sure her gun was fixed properly before she'd left that first night. He hadn't, though - and so she had been unable to defend herself appropriately, hadn't even known to suspect Jack might be after her next, nothing. There was nothing he could do to change that, fix it - but he could try and make up for it to the best of his ability, and he would, at any cost, even if it drove her away in the end.
